Old Hag of the Woods; a Woodland Witch or Gypsy Figure

There’s something about her that feels as though she’s been part of the woods for a very long time — quietly observing, quietly collecting.

She carries a well-worn, charm-laden staff, wrapped and shaped by hand, and adorned with small gathered talismans — bits and pieces that feel as though they’ve been collected over time, each with their own quiet story.

Her face is needle sculpted and hand painted, with an expression that feels both knowing and a little mischievous. Her hair is made from Tibetan lambswool, adding softness and movement, and she’s dressed in layered, timeworn fabrics that suit her woodland nature.

At her waist, she carries a small leather toolbelt with tiny vessels and found objects — the sorts of things you might imagine she uses in her quiet work.

She is self-standing, with a gentle hunch to her back, and detail from every angle — from her fingertips to the textures of her clothing and the pieces she carries.

This is a one-of-a-kind, entirely handmade figure, created here at my worktable in Stratford, Ontario.
