Clay Sculpted Krampus Christmas Ornament

A small but wonderfully mischievous piece of old-world Christmas folklore.

This Clay Sculpted Krampus Christmas Ornament is inspired by German folklore and the darker, spookier side of the holiday season. Krampus is traditionally known as the wild winter companion to St. Nicholas — a horned figure associated with Krampusnacht on December 5th.

Each ornament is cast from my original hand-sculpted clay design, then carefully painted and antiqued by hand to give it a timeworn, old-world finish. His wild hair is made from Tibetan lambswool, giving him a wonderfully untamed texture, while his wired twine horns add to his folk-art character.

He is finished with traditional Krampus-inspired details, including a bundle of sticks, rusty bells hanging from chain, and a wooden Krampusnacht Dec. 5 tag. A gold hanging string is attached so he can be displayed on a Christmas tree, seasonal branch, wreath, garland, or cabinet knob.

A Note About This Piece

Krampus brings a little bit of mischief, folklore, and old-world winter magic to the Christmas season. With his horns, wild woolly hair, bells, bundle of sticks, and Krampusnacht tag, this ornament is a small nod to a much older holiday tradition — one that sits just on the spooky side of Christmas.

Each ornament is hand-painted and finished individually, so small variations in colour, antiquing, expression, wool texture, and finishing details are part of its handmade character.
